We are committed to providing our patients with a nurse-led service and offer a range of treatments for minor injuries. It has been designed to treat patients who have an injury that is severe but not immediately life threatening.
- Cuts that may or may not need stitching or other forms of treatment;
- Suspected broken arms, legs, fingers, etc; and
- Scalds caused by skin contact with hot liquids and surfaces.
The MIU can only treat minor injuries and does not treat minor illness. There are no doctors at the MIU, it is staffed by specifically trained nurse practitioners.
We provide patients with the opportunity to get treated much closer to home without the need to travel to an A&E department.
Can I see a nurse in the evening and at weekends?
You can see a nurse practitioner as appropriate between the hours of 8am to 8pm every day (Monday to Sunday) including weekends and bank holidays. Please note: the last patient book-in time will be 7:30pm each day, with no exceptions.
Will the MIU deal with emergencies?
Yes, if these do not need hospital treatment.
Will I have to register with the MIU to use it?
No, it is a nurse-led service and no appointments are needed.
Can I register as a patient at the MIU?
No, the MIU only treats minor injuries and does not treat illnesses. The MIU cannot offer GP services.
Does the MIU offer home visits?
No, the MIU does not offer home visits as it a service for minor injuries.
